Honeywell and SAP Working Together

July 18, 2011

Honeywell and SAP recently announced a newfound partnership. The idea was to stay focused on the oil and gas market, and bring together Honeywell Process Solutions’ expertise in scheduling and production planning with SAP’s expertise in ERP, business analytics, and supply chain logistics. With Honeywell and SAP working together, it is possible to create tools to help avoid production downtime and improve safety in Honeywell’s assets and the environment.

“Collaboration between the manufacturing and commercial sides of oil and gas organizations can be a challenge,” said Norm Gilsdorf, president, Honeywell Process Solutions. “Our solutions and domain expertise bridge the gap [between business and operations groups in upstream and downstream oil and gas organizations] because they enable information and insight from a plant to be combined with information from the enterprise, resulting in clear communication and quick and correct decision making—the dream of every good business leader.”

Kerstin Geiger, co-head of SAP’s Industries Solution Management group mentioned how Honeywell can use SAP BusinessObjects analytic applications to combine and analyze data from disparate sources.

“Our integrated portfolio will help oil and gas operations run better by enabling the closed-loop management of operations performance. Our cooperation will help drive innovations to market that will exploit SAP’s analytics, in-memory and mobility technologies, and ultimately transform the oil and gas operations,” said Geiger.

This business move emphasizes Collaborative Production Management (CPM) within the process industries. Using CPM and looking at the enterprise as a whole, organizations like Honeywell can make strategic purchasing decisions, integrate applications, and gain business benefits across all facilities by using this real-time information.

Honeywell joined the SAP bandwagon, who’s next? Can businesses or organizations outside of the process industries also benefit from CPM? What kind of tools can Honeywell and SAP create to avoid production downtime and improve safety in the environment?
